According to the United States Army, it is investigating an incident that killed one of its civilian employees in Maryland. The victim of the accident was a 61-year-old man who was operating a riding lawnmower at the time of the workplace accident. The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 on a recent Tuesday morning.

The accident happened outside of Edgewood at the Army’s Aberdeen Proving Ground. The victim, who was performing his job duties at the time of the event, was taken by medevac helicopter to a hospital in Baltimore. Unfortunately, doctors were unable to save him, and he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Army had employed the man as a civilian worker for almost 25 years. Before he started to work as a civilian employee, he served about 10 years in the Army as well. U.S. Army Garrison Commander at Aberdeen Proving Ground stated that the man was a part of their family and expressed his sadness over losing him. The Army is currently investigating how this extremely tragic workplace accident might have occurred.

When a workplace accident claims the life of an employee, Maryland family members of the victims may receive workers’ compensation death benefits. While this compensation will not bring back their family member, it can make the financial strain of losing their loved a bit easier. Should a worker’s death be due to negligence on the part of the employer, the family may choose to pursue compensation in the civil courts. An experienced attorney can provide advice and more information, allowing family members to decide if that is the right course of action for their circumstances.
